📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR REEDS SPRING RESIDENTS & LOCAL BUSINESSES
The Missouri Department of Revenue has provided information regarding a new state law, House Bill 2819, taking effect August 28, 2026.
💵 What does this mean?
The new law allows businesses to round the final total of CASH purchases to the nearest 5 cents.
• Cash transactions only
• Totals ending in 1, 2, 6, or 7 cents may be rounded down
• Totals ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9 cents may be rounded up
• Credit/debit cards, checks, online payments, and other non-cash payments will continue to be charged the exact total
Examples:
$1.92 → $1.90
$1.93 → $1.95
📌 There is no change to sales tax rates, reporting requirements, or remittance requirements. The City of Reeds Spring does not need to make any ordinance changes as a result of this legislation.
This change is intended to simplify cash transactions and reduce reliance on pennies.
We encourage our local businesses to review this information and share it with their staff as they prepare for the new law.
For questions regarding the legislation, please contact the Missouri Department of Revenue.
